Nadal! You did it...

It is another five sets for Nadal. This time, it comes from World Number Two, Federer. But Nadal can handle it. He won 7-5, 3-6, 7-6, 3-6 and 6-2. It's less dramatic from the semi final, but still a dream match. Let the pro give us more excitement.

Rafael Nadal has thwarted Roger Federer’s quest to equal Pete Sampras’ record of 14 Grand Slam singles titles after defeating the Swiss 7-5 3-6 7-6(3) 3-6 6-2 in a breathtaking final of Australian Open 2009 on Sunday night.

Tonight’s match-up was the 19th between the pair and their seventh Grand Slam final, with Nadal now enjoying a 13-6 win-loss against his Swiss rival, including winning their last five meetings. Nadal is now 6-3 in Grand Slam finals, while Federer falls to 13-5, all five of those losses coming to the Spaniard.

In the opening set, Nadal broke Federer in the first game after the Swiss served a double fault and sprayed two backhands, but Federer broke back immediately after a marathon Nadal service game that went to deuce four times, the first two games of the match lasting 15 minutes. Both players soon settled, and the standard of tennis lifted after the early exchanges, continuing to rise as the set progressed.

Federer survived a break point in the fifth game, steadying and sealing his serve with a 180km/h ace, and the No.2 seed jumped to a 4-2 lead after breaking the Spaniard in the next game, sealing it with an enormous forehand on a Nadal second serve. Nadal produced two extraordinary passing shots in the next Federer service game to break back, the Swiss handing it to him with his second double fault of the match on break point. At 5-5, Nadal earned two break points on the Federer serve, needing only one of them to earn a critical break with a driving down-the-line forehand that gave the Spaniard his fourth game in the last five. The No.1 seed then served out the 58-minute set 7-5, making half the number of errors for the set (8-16) and capitalising on all three of his break point chances, Federer managing to convert only two of his four break point opportunities.

Federer started the second set shakily, dropping to 0-30 in his first service game before recovering to go up 1-0 with an ace that he successfully challenged using video line-calling. Nadal averted a minor blip on serve when he crunched a backhand cross-court for 1-1, but Federer earned a break point in the fourth game, Nadal saving it with his first ace of the match and then steadying to level at 2-2. The Spaniard broke in the next game for a 3-2 lead after two untimely forehand errors by the Swiss, his 19th and 20th unforced errors for the match. Nadal then served his first double fault of the match in the sixth game and dumped a forehand meekly into the net to give Federer a break point, which the Spaniard gifted him after a forehand sailed over the baseline to level the scores at 3-3.

Federer’s first serve percentage dropped to 32 per cent for the set in the next game, but he held after a couple of anxious moments for 4-3. Federer then upped the ante in the eighth game by quickly earning two break points, and after Nadal recovered to force deuce, both players squandered numerous chances to win the game before Federer finally converted on a break point chance, his second for the set in seven attempts to leap to a 5-3 lead. The Swiss then comfortably served out the set, which took 48 minutes and saw Federer hit 16 winners to Nadal’s 11 while overcoming Nadal’s 67 per cent accuracy on first serves. The No.2 seed won the final four games of the set.

Nadal went back to the locker-room at the end of the second set, and started the third with a pair of superb curling forehands to take the first game. Federer quickly leveled at 1-1 after a superb overhead. Nadal produced the shot of the match with a spectacular running forehand in the fifth game to take a 3-2 lead, and despite Federer’s first serve percentage hovering dangerously in the low 40s for the set, the Swiss managed to hold for 3-3. Nadal had more unforced errors in the first six games of the third set (nine) than he had in each of the first two sets (eight in each).

Nadal received treatment from the trainer on his right thigh after the seventh game of the set, and was soon under pressure serving at 4-4 when he found himself quickly down 0-30. A Nadal forehand down the line then went wide, but the Spaniard recovered magnificently to save three break points. Federer played an exquisite backhand smash to get the game back to deuce, and a sprayed Federer forehand saw the Spaniard edge to a 5-4 lead. Nadal again sought treatment from the trainer after the ninth game as he tried to stave off the onset of cramp, and held serve in the 11th game after a mighty struggle, Federer failing to capitalise on three break point chances in the game, making him a costly 0-for-6 for the set. With a tiebreak looming, Nadal successfully challenged a line call before an errant Federer backhand handed the Spaniard a set point, the Swiss saving it with a 203km/h serve. Federer then squandered two game points before serving his second ace for the game to force a tiebreak, with the match ticking past three hours. Each player unsuccessfully challenged a call in the first six points of the tiebreaker, which saw the players change ends at 3-3. Nadal then won the next three points, the third of them with a superb running backhand volley, and a Federer double fault handed the Spaniard the set, which lasted 78 minutes. It was the No.2 seed’s only double fault for the set, one where both players made 17 unforced errors and Nadal won 52 points to Federer’s 50. After three sets, Nadal had converted four of his six break point chances, while Federer was just 4-for-17 on opportunities to break the Spaniard’s serve.

Federer held easily to open the fourth set, and had two break points on Nadal’s serve in the very next game, needing just one of them to take a 2-0 lead. A blazing forehand from the Spaniard saw him break back immediately, and after Nadal held for 2-2, the game of the match ensued. It went to deuce seven times, Federer altering his tactics and attempting to run Nadal around with numerous drop shots, and Nadal producing outrageous winners from all angles to stay alive. Federer eventually sealed a 3-2 lead when Nadal couldn’t track down Federer’s fourth drop shot of the game, with the first five games of the fourth set lasting a marathon 31 minutes.

A succession of errors from the Spaniard saw Federer break for a 4-2 advantage, with Nadal starting to appear fatigued, his punishing five-hour victory over Fernando Verdasco in the semifinals perhaps starting to take its toll. Federer held to love in the next game, and soon served out the set 6-3, the fourth frame lasting 45 minutes. Federer was 10-for-14 on net approaches in the set while hitting 15 winners to Nadal’s seven.

The fifth and final set started with Nadal holding easily, and while the Spaniard had Federer under pressure in the next game, he couldn’t capitalise with a break as the match ticked past the four-hour mark. He didn’t miss the opportunity to break Federer in his next service game, the Swiss relinquishing a 30-0 lead with a torrent of unforced errors to give Nadal a 3-1 lead. The Spaniard then held for 4-1, Federer’s unforced error count for the set ballooning to nine. The Swiss held to love in the next game, and in the crucial seventh game of the set, Nadal held his nerve, holding to love. With Federer serving to stay in the match, a double-fault handed Nadal a 0-30 lead, and a sprayed forehand handed the Spaniard two match points, the second of which Federer saved after a nail-biting rally that saw Nadal push a sliced backhand wide. Nadal then secured another match point, winning the title after Federer pushed a forehand long after four hours and 22 minutes.

It is Nadal againts Federer (again)

I'm believe that tennis's fans will be in front of their TV this weekend. It's Rafa Nadal versus Roger Federer (again). It's at The World's Biggest Stage. It's man final Australian Open 2009. Federer confirmed his place by beating Roadick yesterday, and just now Nadal make the dream match come true by beating Verdesco 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-7 and 6-4. They made a new record, 5 hours and 14 minutes, the longest match in Australian Open history.

I'm Nadal's fan. I watched how he handled Federer many times before, but as a underdog. This Sunday he will be the foverite as he now World number one, and for the first time Federer will go throught this match as underdog.

I think we will watch another epic match, just hoping Nadal will survive and my kid will allow me to watch it...

BWF Super Series Masters Finals

At the end of the year, BAM should be so proud with our badminton's player, and we share their feeling. Without China's players this competition lost some 'exciting moment', but our national give us that moment, the moment of glory... Let the pro tell us the rest...

Malaysian Shuttlers Sweep Three Titles In Super Series Masters Finals

KOTA KINABALU, Dec 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysian shuttlers ended the season on a high and in style by sweeping three of the five titles at stake in the Super Series Masters Finals that ended at the Likas Indoor Stadium here on Sunday.

Despite the absence of the Chinese players who stayed away citing fatigue, the finals provided enough excitement to keep the badminton fans who filled the Likas Indoor Stadium to the brim, on the edge of their seats with some sizzling action.

Current World number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei and former world number one men's doubles pair Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong swept the men's singles and doubles titles while Wong Pei Tty/Chin Eei Hui captured the women's doubles.

Chong Wei, the top seed in the tournament, beat Denmark's Peter Gade in straight sets 21-8, 21-16 in the men's singles final while Kien Keat-Boon Heong disposed South Korean pair Lee Yong-dae/Jung Jae-sung also in straight sets 21-18, 21-16 in the men's doubles final.

For Chong Wei who pocketed USD40,000 (RM136,000), it was the first title since becoming the world number one after the Beijing Olympics in August and also capped a satisfying end the season as he had also won the season opening Malaysian Open in January.

Though the final against Gade was a lop-sided affair, especially in the first set when Chong Wei raced to a 12-0 lead before the Danish veteran was able to break the duck, the win would nevertheless be a significant one, especially after a six-month drought of titles.

"This is a very satisfying win and my next target is to win the All England," said Chong Wei whose last Super Series title was in June when he captured the Singapore Open.

For Kien Keat-Boon Heong, beating the Koreans, ranked number two in the world and winning the title, their first of the year, holds bigger significance after coming under heavy criticism ever since emerging as the most exciting pair after winning the All England title in 2007.

The pair who subsequently climbed to the world number one spot are now languishing in sixth spot and had a miserable year which even prompted their coach Rexy Mainaky to consider splitting the duo.

For top seeds Pei Tty-Eei Hui who beat Vita Marissa/Liliyana Natsir 21-15, 22-20 in straight sets, it was their most memorable career win and first major title of the season.

"We played exceptionally well today and everything worked in favour, the drop shots, smashes all hit the target. The money would also come in handy since the Chinese New Year is just around the corner," said Pei Tty who held aloft the mock cheque for USD42,000 (RM142,000).

Meanwhile, the women's singles was won by Zhou Mi of Hong Kong who beat team-mate Wang Chen 21-14, 21-18 while Danish pair Thomas Laybourn/Kamilia Rytter Johl, the world number two, upset top seeds Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir 21-19, 18-21, 22-20 in three exciting sets.

Results (All Finals):

Men's Singles: Lee Chong Wei (MAS) bt Peter Gade (DEN) 21-8, 21-16

Men's Doubles: Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong (MAS) bt Lee Yong-dae/Jung Jae-sung (KOR) 21-18, 21-14

Women's Singles: Zhou Mi (HKG) bt Wang Chen (HKG) 21-14, 21-18

Women's Doubles: Chin Eei Hui/Wong Pei Tty (MAS) bt Liliyana Natsir/Vita Marissa (INA) 21-15, 22-20

Mixed Doubles: Thomas Laybourn/Kamilia Rytter Johl bt Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir 21-19, 18-21, 22-20.

Roger vs Simon (ATP Master Shanghai)

I'm now watching Roger Federer play against Gilles Simon from France in ATP Master Shanghai. Roger Federer, second world rank and first seeded is a favorite player, while Simon is ninth world rank and eight seeded in this tournament is an underdog. I don't know why I'm always with the underdog against the favorite, and of course always lost, unless the favorite one is my favorite player like Nadal...

Federer won the first set 6-4, but Simon did great in the second set. He won back 6-4. Now they are playing at third set. Unfortunately I have to give the way to my wife. She want to watch the news. Our kid, Hammad is sleeping now...
(up-date at 10:03 pm)
Yes... Gilles Simon did it... He won 4-6, 6-4 and 6-3... I like up set... catch the news here.

Hamilton did it in a dramatic final lap

I don't believe this. I knew that he will take the 2008 driver's title, but I don't believe he did it in style, finishing fifth place by passing Timo Glock from Toyota in the final corner in the final lap. What a race.

If you're a F1 fan, you know that Hamilton need to finish at fourth place if Massa win the last race, and Massa did it. Hamilton was in the same condition last year when he lost his driver's title to Kimi in the last race, when everybody believed that he will win it. History may repeat last night, but no... He did it, and with a style too...

I'm not Hamilton fan. I'm Ferrari's fan since 1998. I hope the 'miracle' again this year, but it never happen. I'm unhappy with the result, but Hamilton deserve it. He did a great job for two years and it is unfair for him if he lost again this year, in the final race.

Malaysia lost in the Pestabola Merdeka Final

(Picture from http://www.nst.com.my/)
I watched the Pestabola Merdeka final between Malaysia and Vietnal last night with my kid Hammad. He asked me almost all time to switch to channel 611 or 616, his favorite one, of course Ceria and Cartoon Network, but this time I refused. I want to be a part of the memorable match, the battle between my lovely country, Malaysia and the country that I born at, Vietnam.

Our team –of course Malaysia, until you don’t misunderstand- played very well and deserve to win. They conquer the game and have a dozen of chances, but in the football, you must score to win the game, the only thing that our men couldn’t do last night.

We didn’t score any goal, and neither the Vietnamese after 120 minutes.

When the game went to penalty shooter, the pressure was againt the national team, as they played too well in the actual game. The first ten players from both side did well and no mistake happen. Norhafiz Zamani Misbah, the sixth Malaysian player missed the first the suddent death, and Mai Tien Thanh scored to give Vietnam their first ever title of Pestabola Merdeka…

NADAL DID IT (AGAIN)

I had a good story about my family's vacation to Cherating, Pahang on 3-5 July, but before that let me celebrate this moment first, Nadal did it again (beating Federer). He won the Wimbledon Championships by beating Federer 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-7 (8-10), 9-7 in the final. As I wrote before, I'm Nadal's fan, and this is his first winning in Wimbledon. I watched the match until it was stopped by rain in the end of 3th set. I want to write about the match, but let the pro do it...

Nadal nicks title after five-set thriller
Sunday, 6 July 2008

Written by Ronald Atkin

Wimbledon has a new king. Rafael Nadal dethroned Roger Federer after a five-year reign by winning the longest-ever Wimbledon men's final.

The consistently heartstopping 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-7 (8-10), 9-7 classic began at 2.35pm and thanks to a couple of breaks for rain (surely necessary for the spectators to catch their breath), it ended at 9.15pm with the 22-year-old from Mallorca dropping to the ground with his arms outstretched in celebration.

Watching the four hours and 48 minutes on-court action, from the vantage point of the royal box, was Centre Court legend Bjorn Borg. Nadal had matched the Swede's fantastic feat of winning the Grand Slams of Roland Garros and Wimbledon back-to-back and had also prevented Federer surpassing the five titles in a row he collected between 1976 and 1980.

Conditions for the latest duel between tennis's two finest players could not have been more demanding. The rain, which delayed the start for 27 minutes, eventually cleared but the chill, gusting wind which accompanied it persisted throughout the match, blowing winning shots off course and making life even more difficult for the two competitors. That they coped so well spoke volumes for their skill and adaptability.

With the five-time champion looking less than his authoritative best, it was Nadal who struck the first heavy blow, capitalising on successive Federer errors to break for a 2-1 lead.

From the start Nadal concentrated his battering-ram attack on the Federer backhand, aiming every serve and looping forehand in that direction and it kept the champion in an unaccustomed position - on the back foot. Federer prospered more when he switched to net-rushing but he could not block Nadal's inexorable advance towards the first set.

The Spaniard managed to fight off a break point to stay 3-1 ahead and he needed to avert two more as he served for the set, which he clinched on his third set point after 48 minutes, courtesy of another brace of ground stroke errors from Federer.

It was the first set Federer had dropped since the final of the French Open, when he was routed by the same Nadal.

Federer's counter-attack was immediate and it rushed him into a three-game lead which he extended to an apparently commanding 4-1 with his sixth and seventh aces, only for the irrepressible Nadal to bounce back with some thrilling, all-action stuff.

To Federer's visible anger, his serve was broken as a stretched volley flew out of play and Nadal pulled level at 4-4 as Federer squandered yet another break point.

Now Nadal was in full, thrilling flow, breaking Federer again to lead 5-4 with another huge forehand and celebrating with pumped fists. As he was serving for the second set, Nadal received a warning from umpire Pascal Maria of France for taking too long between serves.

Clearly unsettled by the timing of that censure, the Spaniard permitted Federer another break point on a wind-caused error, but in typical fashion dug deep and clinched the set when Federer once more mistimed a backhand into the netting. So, having swept five games, Nadal was in the driving set, two sets ahead.

Nadal's authority suffered a scare in the third game of the third set when he slipped in making a sudden change of direction and called in the trainer to check on his right knee. No time-out was requested by Nadal, though his speed around court appeared to be affected for a while.

He was at full stretch in the next game, fighting off two Federer break points and, as dark clouds began to mass over Centre Court, the champion went flat out to recover a set and get back into the match. But four more break points went begging as Nadal held for 3-3 before wasting three break points of his own which would have put him 4-3 ahead and perfectly positioned to win.

Instead, with Federer leading 5-4, the expected downpour set in and play was held up for one hour 20 minutes. On the resumption it was Federer who dominated when a tie-break was needed to resolve the set, hammering four aces to take it by seven points to five.

The fourth set did not contain a single break point for either man and when the second tie-break of the match arrived it was a sensation, with Nadal first leading by five points to two and then reaching, and missing, two Championship points before Federer levelled at two sets all when a Nadal backhand error left him the winner by 10 points to eight.

Another downpour drove the players off court for half an hour with the score at 2-2 in the final set and when they returned the light was fading. But the spirit of both finalists burned bright as they hammered the ball at each other just as eagerly as they had done when this marathon first began.

At 3-4 Nadal saved a break point which would have left Federer serving for the title. At 6-6 Federer saved a couple of break points. Finally, in the gloom, the Spaniard broke to lead 8-7 when Federer struck a forehand too long.

So Nadal served for the match again, getting to his third Championship point only for Federer to hit an incredible backhand service return. Deuce once again, but Nadal moved to his fourth match point with a big serve and, with the crowd going wild, Federer finally cracked, dumping a forehand in the net.

It was late, very late, but not too late for the coronation of a new king to begin.

SPAIN DID IT...

Spain is the winner of EURO 2008 and they deserve it. They played very well early in this morning and Torres score the only goal in 33rd minute. This is the first time I watched the whole match since EURO 2008 begun on Jun 6. I watched the match between Germany and Turkey in semi final but there is a problem with signal from the venue. For me Spain did it very well. They conquer the match and had more than 14 shoots, and Germany was off performance. Germany lost and their fan was a loser too. This is life. One day you win and the other day you lost. But the real one is after death... DO YOU WANT TO BE A WINNER THERE OR A LOSER???

GERMANY VS SPAIN

Tonight -maybe-I will be among millions who spent their night in front of their tv. It's Euro 2008 Final. It's between Germany and Spain. And guess which team I will support??? It GERMANY. I have been Germany's fan for more than 25 years. It's start when my first time watching football in 1982. I still remember when my dad, my brother and me myself woke up early in the morning - 2 a.m - only to see Germany lost to Italy in final FIFA WORLD CUP 1982. Since that I'm always with Germany (and they win FIFA WORLD CUP in 1990 and EURO 1996 ).

My brother was Italy's supporter in 1982. He won. Tonight he will be Spain's fan and I hope that history will not return. Go GERMANY go...

WE ARE THE CHAMPION

WE ARE THE CHAMPION... WE ARE THE CHAMPION... WE ARE THE CHAMPION...

For the first time in history, Terengganu be the host for SUKMA and then get a highest gold medals . Our Menteri Besar is very happy, so he gave us a day off yesterday. Terengganu got 61 gold medals. In the past, we only got about 10-20 gold medals. Our targets only 40, but we did 61. We also win gold medal in football. (Tak sempurna juara keseluruhan kalau tak menang bola - orang kata, bukan saya kata )

People in Terengganu are very happy yesterday, but in same time we are still talking about 'petrol tsunami' on Jun 5. Now we are happy and sad in the same time. What can we do. This is life. Whatever happen, we must go on our life.

forget the 'petrol tsunami' for a second, now we celebrate our history time WE ARE THE CHAMPION...

p/s In the same time, Nadal beat Federer 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 (Federer kena katok-yes) in France Open to win his fourth GP in France. He was unbeatable there. I'm one of his fan. But not the crazy one. he he he... (I don't know why I always chose not to support the best- Federer is rank no 1, Nadal no 2) and BMW Sauber made one-two in Canada Grand Prix in F1. Kubica did his best performance and Heidfeld made it better.
